Food system modelling
This part of the project is all about improving our understanding of the sustainability dimensions and of the Swiss food system. To achieve this, we're developing an innovative food system model that takes a detailed, bottom-up approach to exploring these complex issues. By considering the insights and data gathered from the research on ecosystem valuation and sustainability assessment, we're building a model that will be able to provide a more comprehensive picture of the environmental and social impacts of Swiss food consumption.
One of the key aims of this module is to validate and refine existing indicators and inventories, using new insights and knowledge gained from the other modules. This includes developing new insights for measuring biodiversity in food production. We're also conducting a regionalized and crop-specific impact assessment of current Swiss food consumption, which will help us to understand the impacts of different supply chain pathways on the wider food system. By applying the model within the deliberation process, we're exploring the effects of solutions from this process on different sustainability dimensions. With this, we can support the development of more integrated and sustainable food system scenarios. This ultimately can help policymakers to make better-informed decisions about the future of the Swiss food system.
